A very late thank-you (another Baseball post!)

I know I'm scatterbrained, and not very reliable at estimating anything, but this is just embarrassing in it's lateness.

Way back in April, I made this post about baseball cards. How I wanted to get some 1990s but instead got some 1989s because I was too confident in my knowledge and said the wrong year without looking it up.

As I've said a few times the 1990 Topps Baseball design is one of my favorite card designs in history. Yes, the card set that everybody hates. Not me! I had a grand total of 2 of them.

Long time reader Mark Hoyle read that post, and within a matter of a few days had a box full of 1990 Topps in my PO Box. I don't remember exactly when they arrived, but the box they were in was postmarked April 12th. I would have gotten them the first Saturday after that as we can only check the box on Saturdays, usually, as our Jeep has been disabled for months now. That's about 2 months ago now, as I'm typing this up on June 15th. (At 3:51 AM no less!)

The box was jam-packed with 1990s, and I have not taken them all out of the box yet. There were 4 team bags full, and I've only opened one of them to date. Why, you may ask? That's so I can spread the enjoyment out for more than one day. It may take me a while to go through them completely. I still have some cards that I got from a Database member in 2013 I have not "opened" yet. (they are not in packs, but in a white 550 count box. Close enough). I really like this design though and I will probably go through them by the end of 2016.

The cards are great. As somebody who grew up not collecting baseball, all these cards are new to me. I love the bright, garish colors that seem to be totally random. I love the yellow backs on the old-school classic cardboard. I love the fact that I got a bunch of cards of people who were not previously in my collection, edging closer and closer to 10,000 people. (There were 11 new names in just the first team bag!) Thanks again Mark, I really appreciate it, and I'm sorry it took so long to get this post published. My "blogger etiquette" tells me I really must do better than this- two months is two too many.

Now, let's enjoy 18 cards (2 pages) that I chose to scan just for this post, in no particular order. (Not numerical)

Cochrane is one of the 11 people new to my collection

Wayne is also one of the 11 new people.

Speaking of 2s...this is my 200th published post. I am truly surprised I've been able to keep it going that long. Follow through is not my strong suit, (obviously) but I really enjoy doing this, and I hope to keep it going for a long time. While this is my 200th published post, it's actually the 225th I've written; at least two of these are likely never going to get published, because of something else I messed up, behind the scenes.

As an update to the post I made back in April, I was able to successfully find the card that was blown away by my fan. It was in a spot I had looked multiple times already, but didn't see...don't know how that worked exactly but the important thing is that I found it.

    1. Me too! And luckily it didn't land on any of the corners so it didn't take any damage.

  2. Congrats on the milestone post!

Terry Puhl was a rare Canadian major league ballplayer when he played.

  4. This is the first card set I remember getting cards from, so it holds a special place in my heart as well.

    1. Great way to start! The first one I remember having is the Star Wars cards my brother gave me in 1988, but the 1988 Leesley Bigfoot cards were my first set.
