The 1900s were an era of great change in the world, mostly due to the fact that the automobile, which had been introduced several years earlier, became not an oddity but an essential part of life; 1908 saw the Model T introduced, and to think that some of these cards existed before the Model T did...that's hard to fathom. The first car cards would not be produced in this decade, however...

A lot of years are still missing from my collection. The 1909 Squirrel card was one of the first tobacco cards I bought and has been shown here many times before. For a very brief period of time the 1905 Flags & Arms set was the oldest in my collection. The 1908 Wills European Royalty set is filled with people related to me.
These posts are making me want to seek out some early cardboard. The Wills European Royalty card is very intriguing. How pricey do those normally run?
ReplyDeleteNot very much. It's not a sports card so it's cheap. Fine with me! Nothing in the series so far has cost more than $5.
DeleteNo matter how many times you show off one of those squirrel cards, it makes me smile.
ReplyDeleteMake sure to check out my new Squirrels! chart on the Database! https://www.tradingcarddb.com/List.cfm/lid/8207/Squirrels!?C=5
DeleteMy browser really struggled to load this post. It took several minutes. Lol. Felt like I was back in the 90's. Anyways... it was worth the wait. Love seeing these tobacco cards.
ReplyDeleteThat's weird. Sometimes I can't get one to load, so I hit refresh and it's in quickly. I liked the dial-up sound...
DeleteThat Morocco card looks sharp! These are all older than my oldest card; I briefly had a 1900 Arm & Hammer fish card - it was a Secret Santa gift for Scribbled Ink last year.
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty cool. I need to get some more fish cards myself.
DeleteSuch a cool Frankenset-style idea. (I missed your first post.)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the rest of the series!
Thank you! They are coming soon, but I do have other things to mix in as well.
