New NHL Players added in November 2018

Another huge month of new NHL additions, with 42 new people added...almost all of which arrived from Shoebox Legends. With these new people (And as always, I mean hockey players, not specifically NHL players) it brings my total up to 2881 different people, now only 34 behind the NBA for the lead in number of different people in my collection! That's pretty amazing when you think about it, because I've been collecting the NBA avidly for most of my life...I've been collecting the NHL avidly for less than 2 years. I'll have more on that topic pretty soon...at the rate I'm adding cards and people to my collection the NHL will take the top spot in January, if not sooner, and I will make a post about it when it happens. (as I write this, on December 8th, the NBA lead is back up to 43 as I took in a bunch of rookies in trade in the past two days. I also took in some new hockey to keep the lead from getting much larger- I brought in 21 new NBA players in two days!)

For now, here is a gallery of all the people I added to my collection in November, with minimal commentary.

The above cards all came from a repack I purchased at my local Target on November 2nd. The remaining cards in the set came from Shane of Shoebox Legends, from 3 separate mailings! (One from 2017 that I've held for my Card of the Day project, one in September of this year and one that showed up in November)

I really love how well covered hockey is. Even minor leagues get cards! (and by minor I mean non-NHL)

And that brings me up to 2883 hockey players in my collection. (I discovered that I missed adding several people to my Excel chart during December) NBA sits at 2915 at the conclusion of November...the NHL is inching ever closer to taking the lead. Both sports saw moderately large increases in December, and there's still 12 days left of the year as I type this...so both numbers could still grow. I'll be very curious to see how the numbers look at the end of the year! Now that the hard work of putting together the Cardboard History Gallery is over, I should be able to get the new people of December scanned at a much more prompt pace- I didn't finish the November people until December 19th! I got the other sport and non-sport people ready in the same scan so expect to see that post tomorrow.

New NHL Players added to my collection in October 2018

With all the crazy stuff that happened with my computers in the past month, I didn't get to do a lot of scanning in October. Add that to playing catchup with what needed to be done, I have not had the time to put the effort into this post. Finally...finally...on November 20th, I'm writing this post. Thanks to Shane of Shoebox Legends it's a plentiful amount of people, too!

The first two came from the last packs of the hobby box of UD Series 2 I bought in June. The two promo Rangers came from the complete set a local dealer gave to me for my birthday, as I recounted in my Card of the Day post.
The next three Young Guns all came from a purchase I made.

When I went to thank the dealer for the birthday present, I picked up three vintage cards and he gave me an Islanders team set, which yielded me 4 new players. The player from 1959-60 actually was already present in my collection.

Non-NHL players count. I guess I should call it "New Hockey players" rather than new NHL players, but I think you know what I mean.

And even when I thought I had everything scanned, I had to go back and find one in my "waiting to be scanned" boxes...but luckily, I found it and got it scanned and it appears in this post. (The Vic Hadfield card)

But that's exactly 50 new people added to my hockey collection, bringing the total up to 2839 total people, which is now, already, less than 100 away from more different people than in my NBA collection, currently in my 22nd year with that sport.

Come back tomorrow to see the post for everyone else in my collection that's not NBA, NHL or NASCAR.
