The Trading Card Database Awards...I won!

The Trading Card Database is my favorite website of all time. I've mentioned this fact many times over the years I've been writing Cardboard History. On January 14th, the Database celebrated it's 10th anniversary...although I only discovered it in 2011.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary, the owners of the Database created some awards that were voted on by members of the Database family. One of those awards, was Member of the Year, which is equivalent to MVP. I was nominated for every year from 2012-17, and I won three of them! I'm shocked!

I also finished Runner Up in 2012 and 2016 and third in 2015!

I also won and placed in some other awards as well, which was a big surprise to me!
Dan absolutely deserved to win this award, he is always trying to help people, and keeps a cool, calm demeanor even when some of them refuse to get it.
Chuck is the only member of the Database I've met in person,  and I have several upcoming posts that include cards he's sent me out of the blue. I have to admit that I voted for Joel Freedman. I had to after he sent me a 21 pound box of cards, which I have yet to write up a post about because I've been so busy.
Winning this one really surprised me! The way the voting worked, the people who voted had to type in the member's username that they wanted to win, unlike the Member of the Year it was not a dropdown list. So the fact that I won makes it the most surprising to me!

The one that may be the most satisfying, however...is this one.
I put my heart and soul into Cardboard History, and I hope that it shows. By winning this award, I am truly gratified that the readers enjoy it enough to vote for it, and that I won! Of course, it's extra cool because Cardboard History would not have existed without the Database. I only learned that card blogs existed because they have a blogroll on the main page, updated whenever the card blogs do, that I clicked on one day just to see what it was...began reading some regularly, and eventually, I decided to write my own!

I also won the Best Use of the T-Shirt award for 2017!

Previously, the Database has revealed the lists of contributors and All-DB 1st and 2nd teams, which were solely based on number of contributions. As you can see, I have contributed quite a lot: (might want to click to see larger versions)

So much that I had to break it up unto two screencaps!

Although is has not been added to this list yet, I also posted the most basketball and racing images in 2017, and most Miscellaneous for 2017 in both as well, which is packaging, ads, etc. Everything that's not a scan of a card itself or a checklist.

What a wonderful surprise when I woke up this morning!

As you may recall, the Database has been integral to my collection and my life. Entering my NBA collection back in 2012 brought back all the good memories I had of the sport, which got me to begin collecting it again the very same month...I "discovered" hockey and became a rabid fan of it due to a post on the Database...I have received thousands of cards as gifts and in trades with Database members, including two trades that saw more than 1000 cards change hands. I've learned about cards I never knew existed, and was able to finally pinpoint and find out about some of the cards I'd had for years and couldn't identify. I've made some actual friends, too, and never more visible is that they actually voted for me. Me! When there are literally thousands of people they could have voted for.

I can't believe it!

If you want to see all of the awards, including the ones I didn't win, you can click HERE.

And if you're not a member of the Trading Card Database...what are you waiting for? There are over 9 million cards documented on the Database, and more every day. I can't even tell you how many I've been able to knock off my wantlist that other members have seen and either sent me or traded me.

  2. Billy, you deserved every award you won, and you deserved more. When I first started on the site, it was your example I attempted to follow. You always seemed to be there to help out the newbie, or to answer the mystery card request, or to just be kind to those who posted messages. So, basically, I won my award because I followed your example. One of these days, we'll meet (actually talk to each other). It's funny to think of how many places we've both been around here, and probably several at the same time, but didn't know it. Thanks to you for all you do for TCDB and the hobby.

  18. Congrats on all your wins! I am curious about the voting for the website blog however...A Pack A Day hasn't been frequently updated in years (I first started contributing packs to A Pack To Be Named Later 5+ years ago because it was updated more than APAD) and Cardboard Junkie only had 4 posts in a year. Any info about how many votes were cast?
