Yet more highlights from the collection I bought

It's been a while since I shared some of the good stuff from that collection I bought in September...I've been so busy with my mystery project that I have not really done a whole lot of scanning this month. Only what needed to get posted to the Database. Fighting a little burnout on the mystery project got me scanning again, so here's some more highlights....

This set, from 1994-95 Hoops, is one of the earliest parallels of an insert. I've been wanting an example of this set since I began collecting and heard about them, but it took me until this collection to get my first. I've now got two!

 The Ultra Power insert from 1994-95 Ultra is a good one. I'm close to completing it now. It has large metallic sparkles in the clearcoat on the card.

 This just scanned well. Was well received when I posted it on Twitter so here it is again.

 There were several cards from 1993-94 Panini Stickers. I find that it's very rare to find stickers in the wild- this is the first time I've ever gotten any mixed in with other cards. There were a handful of examples of this set. I wish they showed up in repacks.

 I added a bunch of the Z-Cling parallels from 1996-97 Z-Force. Unfortunately they were only in series 1. It sets off my OCD when a parallel is only in one series, and Fleer did that several times in this era.

Another super sparkly Kemp. The lightning bolts are embossed. This is a 10 card insert out of 1998-99 Fleer Tradition, but I believe this is my first from it.

 Genuine Article is a one-year only college release that was pretty much run out of the hobby. This is an autograph, but it's probably not DeJuan Wheat's autograph. They were known for having autographs with the player's name mis-spelled!

 This looks great in a scan, but it looks even better in person. My second of this insert, I pulled the Garnett when new.

A cool insert with a textured front. It's also SN, and my copy is SN444/1000!

May 2017 Trade Recap

It wasn't as many trades as April, but I still pulled off a couple.

First came from Trading Card Database member GoSkins16-0, and was broken up into 2 parts- cards from 2012-13 and a big batch of 1994-95 Flair. 39 cards worth of the latter set!

The two main highlights with this Pat Durham card above, and the only card Chris Childs got in his rookie season, which you have already seen on Nothing but Nets. Durham is one of those rare players, he got only two NBA cards, in 1994-95 Fleer and this card, I now have both!

There were even a couple of the USA Basketball subset, which were short printed to a degree.

Here's another base card, just because I felt like scanning it. You know I favor pinstripe jerseys.

From 2012-13, a season I consider important as it was the season I got back into the NBA- and the last season before Panini started to ditch real cards and just go super high end.
I got a bunch of 2012-13 Panini, my second favorite set of the season, which brings me to one card short, Anthony Davis's rookie card.

I got the last veteran card I needed for Prestige. This set is important as my first cards in my collection of Steph Curry and Kevin Durant came from this set, two of my five favorite players in the NBA today. Lots of other players, too, but those are the big ones. All I have left to chase now are short printed Rookies and second year players that Panini decided to call rookies.

I also got two cards from Past & Present but I didn't get them scanned in time.
Most of what I got, though, were Rookies and 2nd year but labeled as Rookie cards from Panini Marquee. 35 of them to be exact, and one of the retired players included in the set to boot. That year they issued the RC and not really but called RC anyway cards in 5 different styles, in various stages of rareness. (The rarest, of which came one per box and none in this trade, was leather)

As you can see from the cards shown, there is some star power present too. Damian Lillard won Rookie of the Year that year, and Isaiah Thomas, the 60th and final pick of the 2011 draft, has since become a superstar with the Celtics. I got TWO of his!

With the PETG plastic cards, they are printed on white plastic card stock but the Rookie word is clear. Very hard to pull a good scan off of.

What's unusual about the Marquee set is that each class of RC or not quite but still called RC are part of the base set, making it the largest set Panini has ever produced for the NBA. The Biyombo card shown here is card #500, for example. The set is 540 cards long, but only has 100 true base cards, unfortunately. Instead of this wasted space on giving multiple cards to people, they should have given all 450 players in the league a card instead.

I got another PWE from Sean Norris, including more Marvel cards and some cards from the Superman III movie set. I know it's a terrible movie, but if I don't have to pay for the cards, I will take them! Although not my first cards from the set, it is the first I've scanned.

 Most of what I got was from Punisher War Journal, but also one card from 1994 Marvel Masterpieces.

These are all in really good condition, despite the black borders on front and the red on the back. No chipping on any of the 4 cards I got. Rarity for a 34 year old card.

Hot off the Scanner Tray "Week" 14

Back after taking a break for the Top 20 Countdown.

Take a look at this card. Then look again...the Celtics logo appears to be giving him a wedgie! I never noticed that before despite getting this card in 1997.

 1999-00 Finest Heirs to Air #HA1. This is printed on clear plastic, a really neat card.

 1998-99 Metal Universe Linchpins. Each of the white pin designs are die cut. Much better looking in hand.

 1999-00 Hoops Nameplates. This was the first Nameplates set. It lasted for several years and later in it's run it became one of the first patch sets. (with the patches taken from the player's name only). The ones that resemble license plates, like this one, are my favorites.

2002-03 Ovation #68, my 40,000th card. This is an important one to me- for reasons I don't wish to divulge 40,000 was more important to me than hitting 50,000 was.

I finally got the last one of these...

 that I needed to make this!

I pulled one of them, got another years ago (don't remember how) and the Robinson came from Ebay.

Today is the Daytona 500! As the season starts, it is the first time since 1987 that there are no NASCAR cards being produced. I've heard rumors- but only rumors- that Panini has secured the license...but you'd think they would have talked about it by now as the 500 is the biggest race of the year...you'd think they would have had them available to buy at the track. I plan to open up a few packs of the 1993 Action Packed Series III box I bought in May 2015. Turns out I have most of them already so hopefully I will be able to find something new. I don't remember exactly but from that series I'm missing something like three base cards and one insert. I hope that we will get some cards before too long.
