Today is the 5th anniversary of Cardboard History. Where did the time go? When I started this up in November 2014, I didn't think anyone would care what I have to say, to read what I had to write. Was I ever wrong! More than 700 posts in, and I'm still not out of things to say yet.
Although my posts have been down this year, I've got no intention to ever stop doing this, I'll keep it going as long as I'm able.
The biggest change for me is that, when I began this, I was not watching the NHL or collecting hockey cards. When I started this thing, I had exactly 27 hockey cards...now I'm over 16,000 and growing, and so many of them have come from my friends in the hobby, it's amazing. To estimate at half of them is not too high.
I don't know what the future holds but thank you for coming along for the ride.
Of course you know I'm not going to celebrate an anniversary without a contest. The prize is a bubble mailer full of cards. You can choose NBA, NHL or NASCAR, or any combination of the three.

Happy anniversary, Billy! I can't remember the title, but I really liked the post from a couple of years ago when you got a card of yourself, your excitement over getting it is what really made the post for me.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on five years of Cardboard History! I always enjoy reading your posts, even though our interests don't always align. Your road trips and museum visits are some of the most detailed and interesting blog posts I've ever read. If I had to pick a favorite it would be the Pez Museum, only because it's a place I've also been and it's right in my (old) backyard.

Happy 5th Anniversary! You've already single-highhandedly changed my hockey collection for the better, so I'll let someone else benefit from your generosity! To be honest, I've been enjoying the non-card posts you've been sharing. I really like looking at all the photos from all the trips you've been taking. Good stuff!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy many of your posts, but I think I enjoy the visits to the different museums and other road trips the most. The pictures you post are amazing. I hope to visit some of them some day. Of all of the different posts, I think I would have liked to join you on your visit to the Madame Tussauds Museum and the NBA Store the most. I really enjoyed your pictures and how detailed the wax figures are. I also would have really liked to see the NBA store too.
ReplyDeleteI have never been to anything like either one. The closest thing that I can possibly relate to is my Cleveland trip a few years back(actually it was before the kids were born, now that I think about it). My wife let me break the trip into two. On the way there, we stayed in Canton. The Football HoF was very cool, but the room with the players busts felt like they were all staring at me. In Cleveland, the highlight for me was the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. Me being a big Beatles fan, it was really cool that the time we went, they were showcasing John Lennon's artwork. On the way back, she let me choose Indianapolis. We got to tour the Brickyard. That was really cool. The only letdown was that they were resurfacing the track, the tour bus wasn't allowed onto it. Overall, I had a blast, the wife tolerated it.

Congratulations to you on the 5th anniversary of Cardboard History! As Fuji says, you are an inspiration! I'm looking forward to more Cardboard History posts/anniversaries. I think my favorite post of yours is the one that improved the way I scan and post card images: "How to make your scans look like the cards in hand" (I love that the link is below your blog header image).

ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Billy! It's tough to choose a favorite, especially with all your posts that document your travels and visits to museums and car shows and other places of interest. I might choose your post about the oldest card you have from each NHL team. Lots of gems in that one. There was also a post about having us guess when you'll finish scanning everything. That was a fun one.

Billy Happy Blogaversary. Wow I don't know what post to name as a favorite. there have been so many. From when you first got into collecting Hockey, to the posts about your trips to historical places and museums. I would probably say one of the ancient history museum posts.
