From 1994 to 1999, the Travis Carter Enterprises Cup team was sponsored by Camel (94-97) and later Winston (98-99).
It was sometimes censored on cards, with no apparent rhyme or reason as the cards were both real and censored from the same companies.
I just got this die cut insert from 1999 Wheels, where the Winston sponsorship was censored off the sides of the car, and Jimmy's shirt...but not his hat. Nor the Winston Cup logo, which usually never got censored even on otherwise censored cards. Even though the No Bull logo was heavily tied into the Winston campaign, it remained uncensored.
I was in such a burnout mode last year that I didn't write up a Set Completion post for any of the 6 sets I completed in 2019. The burnout is now over, I'm back...and I have already completed two sets in 2020! The first you saw about in the Christmas Part 3 post, but now a set is getting it's own post, and hopefully I will keep that up...I may go back and retroactively write posts for the sets I completed in 2019, and perhaps even older, someday...but not now.
Set: 1994 Power Set Size: 150 Cards Began Collecting: 1994, when the set was issued. Exact date unknown. Completed: January 18th, 2020 (26 years), from a hobby box I found at a model car show Full Checklist and Gallery: 1994 Power Thoughts: Although 1994 is my favorite season ever for NASCAR cards, I would actually consider Power to be my 18th favorite set out of 19 major sets issued for the year. (Only Skybox is lower, and that is because it's tall-boy sized and the smallest set of the year at only 26 cards) The design is just simply not all that great, and the majority of the car photos are either digitally altered, partially covered, or both... The checklist of the set confused the heck out of me as a 10 year old- the first 73 cards in the set have prefixes on the number, and I figured they were some sort of insert or parallel. Not the case, it was just weird. I had so few of them when new that I didn't figure it out then...I'm not sure when I finally did, but by time I made the paper listing for the set in 2007 I had it figured out...The set has a very rare Dale Earnhardt Hologram that is serially numbered, but I do not have it...the only copy on COMC is listed at $1000 although a lot of that is due to the case it's in....the set has one full parallel, Gold Cup '94, which was one per pack...I have 44 of 150. There was also a partial parallel of Prisms for the car cards at the end of the set, which was retail only...I have 4 of 20. This was the last release ever from the Pro Set company. Being typical Pro Set, there are two major errors in the set: T.W. Taylor is shown on one of Mike Wallace's cards (Taylor did not get a card in the set) and Barney Hall's card back is printed upside down. on both the base and Gold Cup cards. Favorite memory of the set: Honestly, I don't have a lot of memories of it. I think I only got four packs worth when new, and I have filled in some more since then, over the years...but I think my favorite memory may actually be when I opened the box I bought while watching the snow fall on the day I completed the set. Last card needed: #118, Jimmy Spencer, of Junior Johnson & Associates.
This isn't the first time this has happened, but while going through my duplicates, I found some good cards for my collection, again. This is the 4th time it has happened that I can remember, and the second , err, third, since I founded Cardboard History. The one time without a post, I put a card into the wrong box, simple as that, and easily found.
This time is not all that much different from the previous two to get posts, to be honest.
Both of the last two times were related to listing my tradelist on the Trading Card Database, which I just finished redoing from the ground up. I listed exactly 9400 cards, but I've already traded two of them. I would love to pull off some trades. As always, I only list flawless cards for trade. Any damage, like corner dings or surface scratches, goes into my "untradeable" box, which was actually about two times the size of my tradelist until I gave most of them to a cousin. It's getting big again, though.
The first good find-
2015-16 Donruss #27
A nice big printing error from 2015-16 Donruss! When I got this card, a couple of years ago now, I missed the printing blob on the top border. I had a non-blobbed version and saw that this number was already present in my collection, so into the dupes box it went. I was going through the box to see if I could find anything to list on my tradelist, and came across this one. It's now the newest error in my collection.
Next, I found one sort of dangerously. In danger of losing it...I had it listed on my tradelist, the old one, since 2014. If somebody had asked for this card, I would have lost it. It's the hardest error to spot, because visually, it looks totally normal. Except, it's not cut properly. It's noticeably taller than a base card. It's actually a fairly rare error, and only spottable when you have a group of cards together. I measured this one compared to a standard size card (Actually, the Zeller above) and it is 1 16th of an inch taller than a standard card. Hardly noticeable, but enough that it moved it from my tradelist to my Error collection. Odds are that I've had this card since 2000, when I did a box of the set. It's not one you see in repacks very often.

Each card had many EX logos on it, and they are textured- embossed, really. You can feel them when you run your finger over them. They are a black logo printed over a whitish underlay. The team logo on the bottom has it too...and the textured white underlay is offset on this card. You know that it's that part because part of it shows up textured under the red border! This set is all holofoil and looks significantly different in hand, by the way.
These last two were never actually listed for trade on the Database, because they were part of a complete set, which I had to break up to get them.
In 1991, Maxx issued a set for McDonald's, which were only available in the South. But, they had a slight problem, and nearly half the set went out the door with the blue line behind the set name missing, like so:

In both cases, I had the other version of the card, the corrected for Trickle and the error for Spencer, in my collection. Luckily, I had them scanned so I didn't need to actually go and physically find them- the scans told me exactly which version I had. This is another Err/Cor I didn't know existed until I discovered it on the Database...and now I've got most of them. I am missing 4 to have the complete promo set, in both error and corrected version. They were more careful with the 1992 set, which has no errors or variations at all. This set, with it's black borders, are extremely prone to chipping, and I have not yet decided if I want to list the other duplicates from the set- I have 29 of them as it was a 31 card set I broke to get these two- or just keep them in reserve in case my actual collection cards get chipped.
Combining two of my three sports into one post, since I didn't get a whole lot of either of them.
First, hockey, which has already surpassed NASCAR in my list of favorites- although, while I type this up on Sunday afternoon, I'll be watching the Busch Clash or whatever they call it now instead of the Rangers/Jets game.
I only added one of my favorite NHL Player, unlike six of my favorite NBA player and three of my favorite NASCAR driver. Just how the cards shook out this time. However, this is a serially numbered insert parallel, my first numbered card of his, so it's a good one!

Manon Rheaume made history when she played in two pre-season games for the Lightning in the 1992-93 season. I wish she had gotten into a regular season game...but it was not to be. She was exclusive to Classic at the time, which did not make NHL cards. So, she didn't get a proper NHL card until many years later when they started making "history of the sport" sets, as 2008-09 Upper Deck Masterpieces was. I had been wanting to get a card of her in Lightning gear for a while and finally found one in my price range.Even though it's a painting, not a photograph, it still counts.
I got this one because I'm good friends with someone with the same name. and it cracks me up whenever I see a reference to this guy. And, it's SN. I didn't realize until the box arrived and I was entering the cards into my listings that it was also my first card from 2012-13 Artifacts.
I'm sad that Jarome Iginla appears to have retired, but glad I got to see him play, at least briefly, during 2016-17. When I was reading about the sport shortly after I discovered it, he jumped out as a favorite because he has done a lot of work to try and combat diabetes, one of the many things that I have wrong with me. This is also my first card from the set, and it's numbered, so winning all around here.
This is a brand new set but is exclusive (no pun intended) to Canada, so I likely won't see it for sale anytime soon. I decided that I wanted an example for my set, and I figured, I might as well get a SN parallel, and the UD Exclusives concept has existed since 1998-99- the longest running uninterrupted parallel in cardboard history. (THAT pun was intended). I also figured, since I was hand picking a card, why not get one of the Women's Team members, thus adding a new person to my collection and slightly increasing the vastly-outnumbered portion of ladies in my sports card collection? I was only half successful on that regard, because it turned out I already had a card of her and had forgotten. She got one in Sports Illustrated For Kids about a year ago. I'm still happy to have this card. And, the other one is a Multi-Sport card and this is a hockey card, so they technically count as two different collections. She didn't make the Olympic team this year.
I pulled a Clear Cut parallel of Brayden Schenn from my box of 2016-17 Upper Deck Series 2, and I thought it was really neat. So I looked to see if I could add some more to my collection. They are a little pricey, but with how rare they are that's not too surprising. I was able to add one each from 2016-17 Upper Deck Series 1 and 2017-18 Series 1. I've always liked clear plastic cards, and these are just plain cool.
With a tip of the hat to the similarly named but not related Kin Kinsley, I stocked up on Young Guns from 2016-17 Upper Deck series 2. I got a hobby box from my Mom for Christmas, and I had remembered Kin mentioning that thanks to E-Pack, you could get most of them for cheap on COMC. He wasn't kidding. None of these cost me more than 42 cents. All but four of them are my first card of the player - Milano, Kylington, De Leo, and Johns were previously in my collection. with Kylington and Johns joining my collection on Christmas day. The Sonny Milano is actually from series 1, I meant to only buy S2 cards but my enthusiasm got the best of me I suppose. With the Auston Matthews in series 1 I doubt I'll be able to ever afford a box so the Milano should not ever be a duplicate anyway. I know, thanks to the Matthews in particular, I can never hope to complete the 530 card Upper Deck Flagship, (I count the updates as part of the set being updated, not the set it was packed in), but I will get as many of them as I possibly can.
I was in such a rush, I accidentally purchased a copy of a card I had just gotten in the box I got for Christmas. It's not shown. Oops!
Now, I move on to the NASCAR cards I got with this Christmas present. It's only 5 of them, and only three drivers are represented.
For some reason, NASCAR cards on COMC tend to be higher priced than NBA and NHL cards. I rarely add any from there, and if you recall I've mentioned that I wasn't able to add any Dale Jr. cards from COMC in the past. That changed, as I added two numbered cards and a relic. I don't know why that changed, but I am certainly happy about it! Dale Jr. is my all-time favorite driver, and I look at his cards regularly. I don't know if its because he's retired now (I'm unhappy about that, but with his injury history I am not too terribly upset- another bad wreck might not have been walk-away-from) Interestingly, the Stealth card that leads off this section of the post, I have the base version of. I only got one pack of 2007 Stealth, so the odds of having that base card from my sole pack must be pretty low, despite only being a 90 card set. (this one's also Refractor technology!) I had to rescan my base version recently because I had accidentally cut off the bottom white border when I originally scanned it circa 2009. The card also shows the biggest problem Dale Jr's cards have had- every Cup card from 1999-2007 were censored. Drives me nuts. Luckily, when he went to Hendrick Motorsports in 2008, Budweiser did not go with him and thus, no more censorship. The Car cover from 2009 Press Pass Pieces comes from an insert set that was available only one per factory set. I got Jeff Gordon in mine, can't complain there.
The 2011 Legends Gold is just a cool card.
I make it a point not to buy current season cards as singles. I did it in the past, and then got burned by pulling another copy of the same card from a pack. More than once, which led me to swear off doing that forever, except for serially numbered cards or rare inserts. Yet, I broke that self-imposed rule for this card. Photos of cars on cards is rare. Press Pass never really figured out that a NASCAR set should show cars, and when they did throw a few out there, they went with superstars only, usually only 5 or 6 per set. Panini has done better...but still manage to do it wrong. The car cards in Select are short printed. I've done three blasters and pulled one of them. The blasters are no longer available at my local Target, sold to somebody who is not me. I figured I would risk it and buy this card. which is my first Cup car card of Matt DiBenedetto. I think it may be my first of Go FAS Racing as well, but I'm not 100% sure on that- I don't remember the new cards as well as I do the cards of the 1990s. For under a dollar, I figured I would risk getting a duplicate at some point in the future, but it seems unlikely. The Select brand returned to NASCAR in 2017 for the first time since 1995. The 1995 set (which really was all about, and had photographs from, 1994) is one of my favorite NASCAR sets and I'm one card away from completing it. Panini got the brand when they got the Pinnacle brands. Until I joined the Trading Card Database, I didn't know it had a run in baseball. I thought it was a one-and-done set for NASCAR. It has appeared in the NBA for the past several years as well. All the Select brand sets under the Panini aegis all use Chrome technology, which Panini calls Prizm.
Racing Champions is special to me. I discovered the sport via a big box of Racing Champions cars on 12/26/1992 and they remained my favorite for as long as they had the license, which was 2005. They practically invented the concept of diecast replicas of NASCAR cars, and they did invent the concept of putting trading cards with them. I have realized, a little while ago, that when NASCAR took away RC's license is when my disconnect with the sport really began. But that's a whole other topic. I have the largest known Racing Champions NASCAR diecast collection in the world. I've worked hard to build it, and in fact, when I was mostly out of cards in the 2007-08 time period, it's because a large portion of the money was going towards getting the Racing Champions cars I always wanted but never had. I estimate that I am under 200 cars away from having every single one they produced in 1/64 scale, although I constantly find promos and variations I never knew existed. Before I got diabetes, I would buy them when I did, but now I can't afford to do that anymore. I will, however, pick up some from time to time, and I have a list of cars that I would buy if I could find them, because I looked for so long and never could.
One thing I would change, though, is HOW I collected them. I got a lot of them second hand, loose, without cards. Others, I would get the five packs, which didn't come with cards (but usually had an exclusive car or two). That latter way is how I got the 1999 Jimmy Spencer car. If I could go back to 1999...I would have done things a little differently. I would have still gotten the 5-pack, due to the exclusive car, but I would have gotten the individually issued car as well, because it came with the card. The 1999 year was unusual for Racing Champions. Most of the cars were reissued several times during the year with a different card design. That year, and that year only, the card was shaped to fit the package, die cut and oversize. Hard to store. The issue number was not printed on the card but only on the bottom right corner of the package. Jimmy Spencer only got two of the 82 numbered issues, one for the standard scheme and one for the gold scheme. I got the gold one when it was new, but I didn't get the card for the red standard scheme until finding it on COMC. The more popular cars- Mark Martin, Ricky Rudd, Jeff Burton in particular- had lots of cards in the set, and the only way to tell them apart at this late stage is to find a copy of them for sale on Ebay. Luckily, most are easily found still. Unfortunately, both of Jimmy Spencer's cars and cards were censored, as he was sponsored by Winston.
This is the car this card would have come with, or darn close to it. RC would modify the cars as the season went along, to more accurately reflect the actual car, so the 5-pack car may not match the single packed car exactly. However, the 5-pack is the only one I have.
I try to search for Racing Champions cards on COMC once a month or so- or whenever I get some money, at least- and I rarely find any I don't already have...only coming up with this one in the last year. But it's one more I didn't have previously, so I'm still happy about that!

It's been a while since I had pulled off enough trades to make a Trade Recap post. In fact, I have not pulled off any trades except for the two I covered here. It's just been slow. Then, in August, I made three trades, and oddly enough they all arrived on the same day- August 6th. Go figure!
First off was a trade with Mark Z/mzentko on the Trading Card Database. I actually forgot that he didn't send me anything from the three-way trade mentioned in the linked post, but he didn't forget.
He sent me a mixture of basketball, including more from the 2012-13 Hoops Taco Bell set, and others.
10 new cards from the most recent food promo in the NBA. these are the highlights for me, as we don't eat at Taco Bell so I didn't get any when they were new.
An insert from 1996-97 is always welcome! Even if it is mirror foil, lol.
A base RC from 1999-00 Topps Chrome. I did do a box from this set but I am nowhere near complete on the set.
This is a college card, normally not a fan, but the photo is from USA Basketball (Miles didn't waste time in college) so it's good.
Several 1998-99 Finest. Oddly enough, Reggie Miller was used in the promo set, which I got when the set was new, or close to it, but I never had the base. I never liked Reggie Miller, but when you are a set collector you end up with a few hundred of him.
The highlight of this trade though was this NASCAR relic, SN07/25, of Matt Kenseth
There were other cards- quite a few others, actually- but these were the highlights (and the ones I got scanned in a timely manner AND remembered where I got them from...my memory is like a goldfish at times). Some of them need to be scanned with the other scanner or scan best with other cards from the same set, that I don't have enough of to make a full 9-card scan of yet. (either not yet in collection or not yet found if already in my collection. IE, 1994-95 Collector's Choice Silver Signature parallel. He sent two or three, I have 5 now waiting to be scanned, but will hold out until I can get a full page scanned. I may break out some of the international cards from the same set, need to do them all together with others from the same set or else the light tan box on the back of the card washes out to white, but I digress)
The second trade was with Tony Burbs of Wrigley Roster Jenga, and wasn't so much a trade as mutual gifting, I sent him some cards and he sent me a thank you package. Close enough to a trade to get recapped here for me!
It was pretty much all NASCAR promos, including some of the California Highway Patrol sets from 2004, which I've long known about, but also a Tide promo that appears to be a single card set that I never knew existed!
Where in the world did this come from? Ricky scored the last win in NASCAR history for Pontiac in this car.
Although the video quality in this upload is terrible, this is one of the greatest endings in NASCAR history. At the time it was the closest finish in NASCAR history, but it's not any longer...and it was only 3 100ths of a second!
Above are one card from both of the Super Shots CHP promo sets. I don't have #CS5 from the orange set. Does it exist? The CHP promo sets were usually 5 cards, which leads me to believe the CS6 in the set might be a CS5 but misprinted. They did promo sets for several years, both of these are from 2004.
I have NO idea where these came from. I don't think they are licensed. It looks like they may have been cut from a magazine. The border is gold foil.
Note how the borders are very oddly cut. The Rusty Wallace card actually pictures Michael Waltrip's car, too!
Another one from Tony was this card of Mike Joy from 2013 Allen & Ginter. It's pretty bad that NASCAR guys get cards in BASEBALL sets but NOT NASCAR sets. I had no idea this card even existed until I opened the package!
Another card he sent is kind of surprising that I needed it. It's a card that came with a 1/64 Action diecast. As you may recall for most of the 1990s and 2000s 1/64 NASCAR was actually my #1 hobby, ahead of cards. At the time this was issued, I was getting the RCCA cars, which they put more effort into, but they didn't come with cards, so from 2002-05 I don't have most of the cards. This was one of them! This one specifically went to the Retro Rainbow car.
The final trade was was Joel Freedman, who is the subject of the linked post in the first paragraph. I mentioned in that post that we were working on trade #3, and it arrived sooner than I expected. As usual, it was chock-full of NASCAR, but this time it included some more as well- once again including my oldest card from a sport, in this case football.
This one is by far my favorite. A serially numbered Ernie Irvan parallel is a big winner in my book! A special firesuit (celebrating the 10th anniversary of Texaco/Havoline sponsoring Robert Yates Racing, worn only at Talladega-2 in 1997) makes it even better.

This one is pretty high up my list of favorites from this trade too...a promo I had no idea existed. And as far as promos go, it's highly unique as most of Action Packed's promos were just exactly like base cards with a promo stamp on the back. This one is totally unique!
He sent along some basketball inserts from 1995-96 as well, which is Always welcome as one of my career goals is to get every card issued in 1995-96 for the NBA, which was my first season. Theoretically it could be done as there are no autographs or relics to chase, which is helpful, but the Electric Gold parallels of 1995-96 Upper Deck fell at one per box or less, which is tough as it's a 360 card card set. These came from Skybox, there were some from Hoops I didn't scan yet.
Some 1994 Action Packed, one of my all time favorite sets, one card from the flagship and some from the surprisingly hard to find Champ & Challenger set, a stand alone set which focused solely on Dale Earnhardt (Champ) and Jeff Gordon (Challenger). For some reason I always had trouble hunting these down, even when they were new, and believe me, I tried. (Action Packed was my favorite back then) Also, for some reason I (again) have never been able to figure out, the Earnhardt cards are about twice as hard to find as the Jeff Gordon cards.
This is actually gold foil and black checkered flag pattern. Looks spectacular in hand, but not in the scan.
As you can see, Action Packeds don't always scan well, due to the embossed nature of the cards. I don't care.
He actually sent along one of my most wanted cards without even knowing it, because I've never told anyone it was one of my most wanted! How cool is that? Among the 5 cards sent from the 1992 Andretti Family racing set, this is the one I most wanted, because it's the only card to show this car...and it's a triple digit car, which I have always been fascinated with.
Unfortunately they went with a black and white photo. There are color photos of this car extant. It was medium metallic blue with a red stripe on the side of the roof. Note that the roof number is only 14. Back then they allowed three digit numbers (Banned in 1971, sadly) and if more than one car showed up with the same number, one of them- traditionally the lower qualifier- would usually add a 1 in front to make it a triple digit number.
Here are some Football he sent me. Of the 5 major sports football is my least favorite (too slow paced for me) but I still have more than 1000 cards of the sport. Like I've said many times I will accept any card, any sport, any time. And if they are vintage cards? Then I'm happy! (happier, anyway, as any new card makes me happy) Considering the newest one from this package is from 8 years before I was born, then they are well into the vintage range in my book.
4 from 1976 Wonder Bread. this was a promo set made by Topps and issued with Wonder Bread breads (naturally). I now have 22 of the 24 cards in the set, which is my closest set to completion not in the areas I normally collect. Cool!

Sorry they aren't in order. I hadn't labeled the scans yet when I uploaded them. The 1963 set is unusual in that it has non-white borders, which was pretty rare pre-1990. The 1969 Smith is an error card, in that Topps put the wrong team logo on there. (which I found out from the Database, as I am not familiar with vintage NFL logos). the corners are cut- the green is my scan backdrop- but who cares, it's my oldest football card! Before this package the oldest was from 1972, so my oldest card got bumped back by 13 years for this sport! The baseball package in the linked post only took me back 5 years, as I previously had a 1963 Topps I had rescued from a local dealer's "junk bin".
None of the cards had their "rub a coin to make a picture" rubbed, so maybe someday if I am ever given a non-cut cornered Smith I will see what the picture showed. Maybe...I don't spend money on cards I already have if I can help it, even if they are not in the greatest of shape. It darn near killed me to have to rebuy some of the cards I lost to flood last year. Maybe a little overdramatic, but I was not happy about it. I digress. Again.

I actually have another package to recap in this post! I recently sent a care package of 1992-93 Ultra to Ketchupman36 and he sent me a thank you package. I was happy to find somebody who wanted my stack of 1992-93 Ultra duplicates, but since he's fairly new to the hobby he's got a lot of "catching up" to do. (get it?)
He sent me along some loose cards and two packs, one of this year's Complete and one of this year's Revolution. First, the loose cards: (Well, not really loose, they were protected, but not in a pack)
Two more 1994 Action Packed led the way! I love this set, and as I've said before, possibly even earlier in this post, any day I get a new card from this set is a good day.

Not as cool: The Loy Allen card was censored, the large Hooters wording on his uniform was removed.
Next up was 1 card each from 1996-97 Upper Deck (another favorite set of mine, but I didn't scan it yet) and 1994-95 Topps, and 3 cards from 1995-96 Topps, which of all the 1995-96 sets is the one that is the least well represented in my collection. I don't know why but they never show up in repacks, which is where I get/have gotten the majority of my collection.

The Complete pack was surprisingly good. I did two blasters and a full box of the set and I still have lots of cards to chase, but with Panini, most of the time you just keep getting the same cards in the same order out of pack after pack, but 3 of the 5 in the pack were actually new to me. The first card out was Kelly Olynyk, who I know he has mentioned being a fan of in the past....I'm not after the move he pulled on Kevin Love in the 2015 playoffs but the card was new.
The very outspoken Enes Kanter (who may soon have a new last name because his family has disowned him) was next.
The silver parallel was also one I needed, and it was Devin Harris, who somehow manages to get cards while players who play a LOT more don't.
Complete was my 2nd favorite set of the year after Hoops so getting new ones is always a pleasure.
The Revolution pack was actually my first from the set! I don't know if the set ever went to retail or not, but if it did, our local Target didn't stock it. My local card shop does box sales only so if it doesn't go to Target I don't get to open any of it, as doing boxes is a little too pricey for me these days.
I did have one Revolution card in my collection, that I purchased on COMC when I was going after at least one card from each set. Unfortunately, 4 of the 5 cards had a corner damaged, clearly the pack took a hit at some point. You can never tell with a pack sometimes. I've got more than a few that came out of the pack damaged. It's not that big a deal to me. If I ever get another copy I'll upgrade, but it's not a priority. I'm thrilled to have them anyway. They look MUCH better in person than they do in scans. The Mullin insert is die cut, which actually prevented it from getting a dinged corner.

And that's it for the month of August. I managed to bring in a total of 434 new cards during the month, despite the fact that my purchases are in total 5 packs (4 of 2016 Olympic set and the Allen & Ginter I profiled) and 5 singles, the rest all came from trades and my stash of unopened cards. That's a good month!
